Guitar example images show a few of the guitars I play and teach with.

I teach guitar lessons to all ages, Beginning student through Advanced, private lessons and group lessons

...finger-style guitar techniques, including for classical and flamenco on nylon 6-string classical guitar, and folk

...pick style guitar techniques for steel string acoustic and electric guitar, including rhythm and solo/lead techniques.

...most genres of music and styles, including folk, classical, pop, rock, metal, blues, jazz, improvisation...from Beethoven to guitar masters like Segovia and Albinez, Chuck Berry to James Moore. I design lessons to teach anything a student wants to learn on any type of guitar. I also have structured formal lessons for teaching the guitar as a musical instrument

...all types of guitars:
classical nylon string guitar (6 string acoustic and A/e), acoustic steel string guitar (6-12 string acoustic and A/e), electric guitar (6-7 string), bass guitar (4-12 string, electric, acoustic, and A/e). CLICK HERE for descriptions of guitars types, with images, and related playing styles and music genres

...scales, right and left hand techniques, music theory, and reading and writing guitar music scores and guitar tablature, music, composer, and instrument history, instrument construction and care

I use approved teaching material as well as my own material, experience, musical rapport and teaching style. I am a professional performing/recording musician and guitarist, and have been teaching the guitar for a decade.  My students learn many tricks-of-the-trade they won't learn anywhere else, and get live performance experience. I'm classically trained, a major in music, and teach music theory, aural perception, technique, and genre. My teaching methods help students learn quickly, and also to play the guitar correctly with an understanding of the instrument and music

I provide some of the sheet music I teach with for free, and there might be a manual and/or sheet music to buy and are available in most music and book stores

Guitar lesson music or song book, manual, or sheet music also depends on what lessons are wanted and whether the student is a Beginning, Intermediate, or Advanced guitar student and has private lessons or is in a group

A student can elect to study by style of playing, like learning to play Traditional Spanish Flamenco or Blues leads. A student might be interested in learning to play a particular kind of guitar, like a Classical Guitar or an Electric Guitar. Formal, or Traditional, instruction for learning the guitar as a musical instrument is generally taught on an acoustic, nylon string, Classical Guitar and can be studied by course level series. So, the materials will vary by student. Students in group classes and in performing groups or bands learn the same music. Students can participate in selecting their repertoire

Chairs and music stands are provided for classes; instruments and equipment are not

The student must have their own instrument and equipment. All that is needed to learn to play the guitar, is a basic 6-string guitar. Basic cost of a 6 string guitar, a nylon string classical, steel string acoustic, or solid body electric guitar could be $100 or less new

It's handy to have a Music Dictionary, like the Harvard Dictionary of Music, which is the standard for American music.

The music lesson facilities where I give guitar lessons have sound-proofed music rooms, chairs and music stands are provided; the facilities are excellent establishments with restrooms and drinking fountains, parking, waiting/reception foyer, and great staff to make and manage appointments, schedule lessons, and be of assistance to the students.

Classes are held once a week on weekdays, afternoons or evenings. Schedule guitar lessons with me by calling the school where I teach and check my schedule to find an opening that suits the student's schedule for a regular lesson time. Classes can be rescheduled to accommodate changes

Even for private lesson students, although it's not mandatory, I like to have my students form performing groups and bands, for our concerts, as well as performing solo pieces

Performance etiquette and experience performing live before an audience is supported by the schools where I teach and we hold performance concerts for friends, family, & general public, sometimes on professional stages, like Scottsdale Center For The Performing Arts and Queen Creek Center for The Performing Arts...sometimes our concerts are at the music school facility and we have a reception with refreshments afterwards. Certificates for course level completion, special mention, and for achievement are awarded

AMA, Arizona Music Academy, is all about music lessons and hosts a teaching staff of virtuoso musicians. Professional music teaching facility for all student ages and instruments

FlashPoint Performing Arts is all about performance, offering classes in theatre, vocal instruction, musical instruments, ballet, pointe, jazz, tap, lyrical, hip hop, musical theatre & modern dance and participates in district, state, and national competition

Classical Guitars have a hollow body and sound hole with nylon strings that wind on wooden tuning pegs in a slotted head. The classical guitar is especially the guitar to choose to play traditional, or concert, finger-style classical music or flamenco, for example.
There are full size, ½, and ¾ scale instrument sizes.
'rule-of-thumb' is:
HALF SIZE, age range: 3-7     3/4 size, age range: 6-10     FULL SIZE: adult

CLASSICAL   ACOUSTIC   ELECTRIC   A/e GUITAR   12 STRING GUITAR   BASS   AMPLIFIERS   CASES    STRINGS

Acoustic Steel String Guitars also have a hollow body and sound hole or slots, and have metal strings that wind on metal tuning pegs attached to the back of a non-slotted head. This guitar is played with guitar picks, called flat-picking, and/or with finger picks although there are many left and right hands-on playing styles and techniques.

This guitar is called a 'flat-top" guitar; a 'Dreadnaught' has a deeper body, but the term 'Dreadnaught" has become somewhat of a generic term to refer to any flat-top, steel string guitar as shown in these pictures. I refer to this guitar simply as an 'acoustic steel string' guitar, referring to all acoustic flat-tops. This guitar is often used for Country and Folk music, and to play Bluegrass rhythm, for example. Traditional Southern American Blues is often played on acoustic steel string guitars and is a popular guitar for many genres of music. Acoustic steel-string guitars should have knobs for a shoulder strap, which is used to hold the guitar when a musician is playing in a standing position. This picture is just an example.

Electric Guitars have a solid body, metal strings, and electric pick-ups for sound amplification. Electric guitars are played with guitar picks although there are many techniques using left and right hands and fingers. Generally, a shoulder strap is needed. Classic rock, modern rock, jazz, and metal genres of music and playing styles especially use the electric guitar. This picture is just an example

A/e Guitars: Classical and steel string acoustic guitars can also be electrified (have electric pick-ups and instrument jack), and are  Acoustic/electric guitars.

They can be played acoustically or through a guitar amplifier. These pictures are just examples

A 12 String Guitar is a 6 string guitar with each string doubled and is basically played the same as other 6 string guitars. The 12 string guitar has it's own sound, a full sound. 12 string guitars are either acoustic, A/e, or electric and use metal strings. 12 string guitars are commonly played in the same style and genres of music as other 6 string guitars. 12 string guitars have been used in Country, Rock, and more. Double neck guitars commonly have a 6 and a 12 string guitars combined on one body. These pictures are just for examples

A Bass Guitar has a basic four strings that are concert tuned to the same notes as strings 3-6 of a 6 string guitar, but two octaves lower. Bass guitars are either acoustic, A/e, or electric and use metal strings. Some basses have had a 5th and 6th string added, as many as 8 and 12 strings. A bass guitar is principally a band instrument and bass musical parts are scored in the bass cleft. There are many techniques for playing bass, and basses and bass parts are used in most every genre of music and style.
These pictures are just for examples.

Guitar tuner   Guitar Picks   Guitar Amplifier

An Amplifier and instrument cord are needed for electric guitars. A basic practice amplifier might be 10 watts with a 5” speaker and weigh about 8 lbs. A 35-50 watt amplifier with one 10” speaker might weigh 30-40 pounds.  ‘Distortion’, and other effects, and having an earphone jack are handy features. A line out is useful, as is an auxillary in for CD/tape/drum machines. Some have built-in tuners. A/e guitars also use amplifiers and use the same guitar instrument cable that electrics use. For bass guitars, be sure to get a bass amplifier.
