Electric Guitars have a solid body, metal strings, and
electric pick-ups for sound amplification. Electric guitars are played
with guitar picks although there are many techniques using left and right hands
and fingers. Generally, a shoulder strap is needed. Classic rock, modern
rock, jazz, and metal genres of music and playing styles especially use
the electric guitar.

on electric guitars
Body:
The main part of the guitar which connects to the guitar neck. Also
where the pickups and bridge is located.
Bridge: The bridge assembly, or just "bridge" is an area on the
face of the guitar where the string meet or are connected to the face.
Frets: Vertical metal wires which sit vertically on the guitar
neck.
Headstock: The area of the guitar at the end of the neck where
the strings are tuned. Neck: The
long narrow part of the guitar where notes are fretted. Located between
the body and headstock of the guitar.
Nut: The point on the guitar neck where the strings touch the
neck and join the headstock. Pickup
Switch: A switch located on the body of the guitar used to select
different pickups for different tones and sounds.
Pickups: A Pickup is a magnet wrapped in wires which sits on
the face of an electric guitar, underneath the strings. When the strings
move, it interferes with the magnetic field of the pickup and that
impulse is sent to the amplifier. The impulse is then modified at the
amplifier.
Tremolo: (aka: Whammy bar) The tremolo is a bar connected to
the bride of the guitar. By moving the tremolo bar up or down, you can
move the bridge, thus changing the pitch. Tuning
Pegs: The pegs located at the headstock which are used to tune the
guitar. the Machine Heads have gears, which when turned, can tighten or
loosen the string. Volume
& Tone Control: Control knobs on the body of the guitar which are
used to adjust guitar volume and tone. CLICK HERE

Guitars: Classical and steel
string acoustic guitars can also be electrified (have electric pick-ups
and instrument jack), and are Acoustic/electric guitars.
They can be played acoustically or through a guitar amplifier. This
picture is just an example of an A/e steel-string acoustic 6 string guitar
A control panel is often mounted on the upper side of the body and the
'cut-away' body style makes it easier to play the entire fret board.
Having an instrument jack and electric pick-up on an acoustic guitar
allows not only amplification for greater sound output levels and use of
various sound effects, equalizing, tone adjustment and in-line tuners,
these guitars can interface a direct line into recording devices. These pictures are just for examples

This is an example diagram of the placement of a particular
Electric/acoustic guitar's electric pick-ups, output instrument jack, and
control panel ...

12 string acoustic guitar
12 string A/e
guitar

A 12 String Guitar is a 6 string
guitar with each string doubled and is basically played the same as other
6 string guitars. The 12 string guitar has it's own sound, a full sound.
12 string guitars are either acoustic, A/e, or electric and use metal
strings.
12 string guitars
are commonly played in the same style and genres of music as other 6
string guitars. 12 string guitars have been used in Country, Rock, and
more. 12 string guitars can be acoustic, A/e and electric, including
double neck guitars, which usually have a 6 and 12 string combined on one
body.

A
Bass Guitar has a basic four strings that are concert tuned the
same notes as strings 3-6 of a 6 string guitar, but two octaves lower.
Bass guitars are either acoustic, A/e, or electric and use metal strings.
Some basses have had a 5th and 6th string added, as many as 8 and 12
strings. A bass guitar is principally a band instrument and bass musical
parts are scored in the bass cleft. There are many techniques for playing
bass, and basses and bass parts are used in most every genre of music and
style.
