Classical Guitars have a hollow body and sound hole with nylon strings that wind on wooden tuning pegs in a slotted head. The classical guitar is especially the guitar to choose to play traditional, or concert, finger-style classical music or flamenco, for example.
There are full size, ½, and ¾ scale instrument sizes.

Body: The main part of the guitar which connects to the guitar neck. Also where the pickups and bridge is located. Bridge: The bridge assembly, or just "bridge" is an area on the face of the guitar where the string meet or are connected to the face. Frets: Vertical metal wires which sit vertically on the guitar neck. Headstock: The area of the guitar at the end of the neck where the strings are tuned. Neck: The long narrow part of the guitar where notes are fretted. Located between the body and headstock of the guitar. Nut: The point on the guitar neck where the strings touch the neck and join the headstock. Tuning Pegs: The pegs located at the headstock which are used to tune the guitar. The tuning pegs are attached to machine Heads that have gears, which when turned, can tighten or loosen the string.

ABOUT GUITAR SIZES

The traditional acoustic classical guitar with nylon strings is used to teach the guitar as a musical instrument although a student can learn to play and study the guitar on any kind of guitar, like an electric or steel string acoustic. Scaled-down sizes, for children students and adults or others with small hands, for most any kind of guitar are sometimes available. Classical guitars are commonly available in full size, three-quarter size, and half size. Guitar cases and gig bags are usually available for 1/2 and 3/4 size guitars as well as full size guitars.

It's good for a student to choose the instrument most personally suitable and comfortable, although 'rule-of-thumb' is: HALF SIZE age range: 3-7     3/4 size age range: 6-10     FULL SIZE: adult

Acoustic Steel String Guitars also have a hollow body and sound hole or slots, and have metal strings that wind on metal tuning pegs attached to the back of a non-slotted head. This guitar is played with guitar picks, called flat-picking, and/or with finger picks although there are many left and right hands-on playing styles and techniques.

This guitar is often called the 'flat top' and is used for Country and Folk music, and to play Bluegrass rhythm, for example. Traditional Southern American Blues is often played on acoustic steel string guitars and is a popular guitar for many genres of music. Acoustic steel-string guitars should have knobs for a shoulder strap, which is used to hold the guitar when a musician is playing in a standing position.
