Fender® G-DEC Guitar Digital Entertainment Center Priced around $270

Mfg Product Description

At the heart of the G-DEC is a 15W amp and 8" speaker combo with the familiar Fender look and feel. But that's just for starters. This one-of-a-kind combo adds a digital LCD screen; lots of guitar tones; selectable drum beats, bass lines, and other instruments; reverb, echo, and other effects; a tuner; a phrase sampler with line in and slow down; an internal synth with MIDI; and a shoulder strap for easy transport. So you've got the ultimate practice partner, rhythm section, and song-inspiration platform all wrapped up in an easy-to-use combo amp.

The G-DEC is loaded with 50 Performance Presets that each include a drum loop, bass line, guitar amp tone, and effects. There are 50 user presets, tons of guitar tones, drum loops, a metronome, and backing tracks in nearly every style so you can build your own backing tracks. You can edit, move around, and store all the Performance Presets. Each preset includes a guitar tone (built from the following ingredients: Amp Type, EQ, Compressor, Timbre, Noise Gate, and Effects) and a drum/backing loop including rhythm instruments.

70 drum/backing loops and a metronome are included so you've got a drummer on tap anytime you want one. There are loops for Rock, Pop, Metal, Funk, Punk, Jazz, Country, Blues, Latin--pretty much any style you would want to play guitar over.

The amp settings are: Tweed (1-3), Blackface (1-3), Dynatouch (1-4), British (1-3), Modern (1-3), and Acoustic.

There are standard tone controls such as Gain, Volume, Bass, Middle, Treble, Noise Gate, and Compressor, as well as special Timbre settings like Full Body, Full Stack, Razor's Edge, Bright Lite, Bass Boost, Nu Metal, Super Brite, and Acoustic.

The effects menu includes mono delay, tape delay, stereo tape delay, ducking delay, reverse delay, autopan delay, sine chorus, triangle chorus, sine flange, triangle flange, phaser, tremolo, pitch shift, touch wah, fixed wah, Vibratone, Autoswell, Alienator, Resolver, fuzz, overdrive, and effective combinations like touch wah/fuzz, ring modulation/delay, fuzz/delay, overdrive/delay, chorus/delay, flange/delay, phaser/delay, and Alienator/delay. There also is an effects level control. Reverb selections include Ambient, Small Room, Large Room, Small Hall, Large Hall, Arena, Small Plate, Large Plate, Spring, and '63 Spring.

All of these effects have parameters that can be adjusted, so there are an infinite number of possible guitar sounds.

  2 x 60 Watt with 2 x 8" speaker
Behringer Ultracoustic ACX1000 2x60W Acoustic Amp Priced around $300

Mfg Product Description

The instrument channel is optimized for piezo-type pickups often found in guitars and other stringed instruments. It includes a great-sounding active 3-band EQ plus an attack control, especially useful for fingerpicking, and two feedback controls for fast, easy elimination of problem frequencies. Separate gain and volume controls offer additional tone-shaping flexibility, while the phase button with status LED allows quick correction of the phase problems often encountered with acoustic instruments.

The second channel features a first-class mic preamp with a balanced XLR input and phantom power, a 1/4" line-level input for a second instrument, and the same EQ section and feedback controls as channel one. Instead of an attack control, Channel 2 sports a control for the enhancer circuit, which helps you get the best out of your vocal or instrument signal. Both channels share a tube-emulation circuit specially developed for the ACX1000 and featuring a warmth control that allows you to add tube-type harmonics at will. A vintage-style meter displays the amount of added warmth.

The Ultracoustic also boasts a 24-bit stereo digital multi-effects unit with 24 algorithms that were painstakingly fine-tuned for acoustic guitar and vocals, including reverb, delay, rotary speaker, chorus, flanger, stereo panning, tremolo, and various effects combinations. Four of its 99 editable presets can be assigned to quick-access front-panel presets or footswitch selection. Last but not least, the ACX1000 offers a multitude of useful I/O options, including an adjustable stereo aux in with level control and mute function, a stereo tape I/O, a pre-effects insert per channel, and stereo post-effects insert in the master section. Plus it's the only acoustic amp on the market with a MIDI interface that allows remote effects selection and automation. In addition to its road-proven build, quality, and first-class components such as a robust power supply for plenty of reserves and headroom, it features an active, temperature-controlled cooling system and includes a quad footswitch for effects switching.

Behringer Ultracoustic ACX1000 2x60W Acoustic Amp Features:

60-watts-per-side RMS stereo amp
2 - 8" high-resolution speakers plus special HF driver
2 channels with separate volume, 3-band EQ, and 2 feedback filters

Tube emulator adds warmth and presence to instruments and vocals

Parallel tuner output plus adjustable, mutable stereo aux in
Channel and master inserts
Stereo tape I/O
MIDI interface for remote effects selection
Includes quad footswitch for effects switching
